Many of the people you see at Stepney are volunteers who give their time free.
Volunteers are fundamental to the ability of the Stables to deliver its service. Adult volunteer roles currently available are:

12-18's Volunteer Project
We have an extremely popular volunteering program for young people who want to learn more about horses and wish to spend their free time caring for them. It is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, keep fit and active and is a fantastic addition to a CV.
Due to the potential risks involved in working with large animals all young volunteers must undergo an initial training period. This consists of a 2 hour group training session once a week for 6 weeks. Once you are safe and confident you can attend evenings after school or at the weekends and during school holidays.
Volunteers spend their time at the stables grooming the horses, cleaning their equipment, tidying the yard and leading beginner riders on lessons. Volunteers are rewarded with credit on their riding accounts which they can exchange for riding lessons.
In addition to every day volunteering tasks we also have a packed schedule of social events such as sleepovers and parties, non-equestrian activities such as relationship and sexual health sessions plus holiday trips and camps.
For those wanting to boost their CV even further we offer accreditation through the Association of British Riding Schools and The British Horse Society. There is accreditation suitable for all ages, levels and abilities and it is free of charge for volunteers.
"Stepney has made me the confident, happy person I am today. Its not just about the experience of being around the horses, its meeting so many different people from so many different walks of life and interracting with them and growing from those experiences. Stepney is like my first home. Where I live is like my 2nd home. I don't know what I'd do with out it."
"Riding and volunteering has changed my life so much!"

Volunteer of the Month
Junior Volunteer Club
Junior Youth Work and Junior Volunteers Club is available for children aged 8 – 11.
This club has limited availability at the discretion of our funders. Anyone who is interested in applying should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0191 2615544 and ask for Aidan.
Both clubs offer the same experience, where children can learn what it’s like to be a volunteer before they are old enough to do it for real.
They spend time helping on the yard, grooming the ponies, learning new skills and finding out things about the ponies. The knowledge and skills they learn will give them the option to do the ABRS (Association of British Riding Schools) Tests which are held regularly at the stables. If junior volunteer club/youth work sounds like something you are interested in, please complete and return the attached form, completing as much information as you can so we can assess the eligibility of your child. If you do not meet the criteria, you can still come to the sessions, but there will be a cost of £10.
The main focus though is to spend time with the ponies and have fun!
Junior Volunteer sessions take place every Tuesday, Fridays 5.00 – 7.00pm and Saturday 1pm-3pm. The sessions are restricted to two sessions per person per week to give everyone the chance to attended at least one session per week.
